Chapter 18 + Documents:

Colonization had taken its toll in Europe as the push for acquisition of raw materials increased. The major European powers such as Britain, Spain and Portugal were organizing military campaigns in order to take over other nations in order to acquire resources for finished goods back at home. Colonialism instilled by European powers took a massive toll on the natives as massive die offs occurred as well as native land being taken control of. An example of colonization would be by the Britain in India. In South Africa racial segregation was instilled, in Indonesia farmers were forced to give up a percentage of crops to its colonizers, in the Congo forced labor and interactions between many people caused an AIDS epidemic. The mixing of races commonly occurred when there wasn't enough labor present in a colonized country and the European power brings in another minority to help mass produce. For example in Africa, Chinese migrants were brought over in order to help mass farm crops. In California, Chinese immigrants were also brought in to the coal mines.
The natives being colonized usually took up what the westerners taught, such as language and dress style, as well as political ideologies.

Documents:
The rush for Africa took place as major European powers saw Africa as a source for raw materials and opportunities for spiritual conversion. In the picture shown, a French commander over looks a deceased soldier. What this image portrays is that the French saw Africans as disposable and that they often used Africans for military conquests and battles for an upper hand in body count; the British due to wanting the region of Egypt and South Africa.
In the other image a portrayal of a British person with both feet planted in Egypt and South Africa shows that the British saw themselves as invincible and that they were the top colonizers of the world and that the British Empire could extend from horizon to horizon.
The image that portrays both a British and French person standing over their conquests and a pile of bones can be interpreted in the way that they didn't care who had to take the fall as long the job was taken care of.
The image with the Ethiopians fighting off the Europeans portrays that as a whole they were powerful enough to keep the westerners from over powering there culture and there nation.
