Chapter 14: {Part 2} and Documents

In the second part of this chapter, Strayer goes more into depth on the exploration of slave trade in Spanish America, Brazil and the Caribbean, and North America.

  • In Spanish America, the main produce that drove the economy would be gold/silver. Labor was completed by indigenous (but not slavery). In long term demographics there were mixed race categories.
  • In Brazil and the Caribbean, the main produce that drove the economy would be sugar. Labor was completed by the indigenous but slowly drifted towards the importation of slaves. In long term demographics there were named mix race groups.
  • In North America, the main produce that drove the economy would be plantations. Labor was completed by natives or indentured servants, and later on slaves. In long term demographics there were little mixing.
